Race Across Africa
- The purpose of the Race Across Africa is to raise awareness and funds for humanitarian efforts along the course route. These efforts include projects for clean water, sustainable energy as well as the support of primary and secondary education.
- The planned commencement of this ultramarathon race is June, 2014. This month was chosen to avoid the hot summer months crossing the Sahara (Egypt and Sudan).
- The planned distance for this classic Cape-to-Cairo run is 12,000km (7,400 miles).
- The daily stages will average 55km (34 miles). The shortest daily distance is approximately 20km (12.4 miles) and the longest stages will range up to 95km (59 miles).
- The total race will take an estimated 217 days (a little over 7 months).
- The south-to-north run encourages stage, country and continent runners to participate. Stage runners can join at any time and place they wish. Country and continent runners are urged to contact the coordinators at least a year prior to their participation. Continent running will require a fee and a commitment to fundraising.
- The following counties will be crossed: South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt
- If you are interested in participating, you can contact the race director at admin@raceacrossafrica.com
